Fishing buddies
Fishing Buddies catch freshwater or saltwater fish while you fish elsewhere. Quality and speed upgrades apply to both buddies: quality changes the catch’s quality distribution, while speed reduces the successful yanks needed per fish. Collect each catch so the buddy can start another.
Choose a buddy

Each buddy rolls its own water’s fish table with a maximum fish tier of 2. It does not run the player’s rain, junk, treasure or Void replacement rolls. Your bait and lure do not change that selection.
How quality works
A buddy starts at Normal quality. Each successful independent quality check raises it by one step. This counts successes; player fishing instead keeps the highest successful quality tier. At upgrade 5, Alpha requires every check to succeed and has a 0.51% chance.
How speed works
An empty buddy starts each timer check with a 1.2% chance to make progress. A failed check adds 0.4 percentage points until a successful yank resets the chance. The base buddy needs 12 successful yanks per fish; speed upgrade 5 reduces that to 5. Once a fish is waiting, progress pauses until you collect it.

Buy upgrades at the Fishing Store
Quality and speed are separate purchases and are available from Camp Tier 1. Buying a second buddy does not require buying its upgrades again. The saltwater buddy’s purchase requirement is shown above.
